Girling Supplies

...in search of good food

Ring a mobile phone and the message you will often hear is ‘The person you are calling is not available, please leave your name, number and message'

Why have this message or a mobile phone, if you have no intention of responding to the call. At the risk of upsetting people, are we all to busy to respond, or have we lost the art of communication? As a salesman, I contact businesses and individuals because I believe I have something different to offer. If knowledge is power, are we a nation of MENSA geniuses or not interested in expanding our knowledge base.

During the month I had one bakery who asked for information by e mail and then did not bother to open or acknowledge its receipt. And another customer who wanted to keep the sample bespoke plastic stacking container with insert. He will send the order no. After four telephone calls no order no. and therefore the accounts dept will not authorise invoice.

Orders from bakeries, restaurants, sandwich manufacturers, meat processors and a pharmaceutical company. A diverse product range of bespoke metalwork, stacking containers, wheeled waste bins, nest/stacking containers, ingredients dispensers and baking trays.

Enquiries for stacking containers manufactured in special material, a champion food manufacturer whose product is a regional speciality. Pie tins from 2 different companies who see a niche in the market they hope to exploit. The first, a retailer with a production kitchen in London and the second a meat processor. Discussions with a bakery needing sundry items for use in production.

During March I am looking forward to visiting a cross section of food manufacturers who have responded to my telephone calls and now have appointments to discuss their requirements for both catalogue and bespoke products.
